The Sunflower Room. Book a first call

Areeba Khan · Child & adolescent psychologist · EFT Level 2 practitioner · New Delhi

Big feelings need a room that can hold them.

I work with children, teenagers and young adults on anxiety, low mood, grief, focus and the ordinary hard parts of growing up — and with the parents holding it all together. Play-based therapy, talk therapy and EFT (tapping).

The EFT tapping sequence

Who comes in

Three kinds of people usually knock on this door.

Sometimes it's the child who needs the room. Sometimes it's the parent. Often it's both, in different weeks.

Children

Ages 4 – 12

Worry and clinginess, school refusal, meltdowns and anger, sleep and toilet troubles, friendship difficulties, adjusting to a new sibling, a move or a loss in the family. Sessions are play-based — drawing, stories, games — because that is how children say things they can't yet put into sentences.

Teenagers

Ages 13 – 19

Anxiety and panic, low mood, board and entrance-exam pressure, body image, self-esteem, identity, phone and social media use, conflict at home, first heartbreaks, self-harm urges. A confidential space of their own, with parents kept in the loop about progress rather than transcripts.

Parents & young adults

Ages 20 – 35 · caregivers

Parents who want to handle behaviour differently, co-parents who need one plan, and young adults carrying grief, burnout, anxiety or an early-career wobble. Grief after losing a parent is an area I've researched closely and work with often.

Services

What you can book.

Everything below is available in person at the South Delhi practice, and online across India. First conversations are always about fit before anything else.

Individual therapy

Play-based therapy for children

Weekly sessions using play, art and storytelling, with a short parent check-in built into the schedule so what happens in the room continues at home.

  • Anxiety, fears and separation difficulty
  • Anger, defiance and emotional regulation
  • School refusal and exam worry
  • Adjusting to loss, divorce or relocation
ages 4–1245 minweeklyin person or online

Individual therapy

Counselling for teenagers & young adults

Talk therapy that takes the pressure of being a teenager in India seriously — marks, comparison, family expectation and identity, all at once.

  • Anxiety, panic and low mood
  • Self-esteem, body image and identity
  • Academic and career pressure
  • Relationships, boundaries and conflict at home
ages 13+50 minweekly or fortnightly

Family work

Parent guidance & parent–child sessions

For parents who don't need a child in therapy so much as a plan they can actually hold to on a Tuesday evening. Practical, specific, no lectures.

  • Behaviour plans, routines and screen-time agreements
  • Discipline without shouting or bribing
  • Talking to a child about illness, death or separation
  • Getting two parents onto one approach

Specialist modality

EFT (tapping) sessions

Emotional Freedom Techniques — gentle tapping on acupressure points while staying with a specific memory, worry or body sensation. Certified at Level 2 with EFTMRA India.

  • Anxiety, panic and phobias
  • Exam, stage and performance nerves
  • Stress held in the body and sleep difficulty
  • Distress linked to a specific memory

Specialist area

Grief & loss, especially parental loss

My master's research followed how young adults' picture of their own future shifts after losing a parent. That work sits behind this offering — including the losses nobody around you seems to be marking any more.

  • Bereavement in young adults, at any point after the loss
  • Helping a child understand a death in the family
  • Anniversaries, guilt and the "should I be over this" question
  • Grief that is complicated rather than simple
ages 12+50–60 minEFT optional

Developmental support

Neurodiversity support for families

Support around autism and ADHD: early concerns, screening, making sense of a report, and translating it into what to do on Monday morning. Formal diagnosis is made in collaboration with a paediatrician or psychiatrist — I'll refer where that's needed.

  • Developmental screening and early identification
  • Explaining a diagnosis to family and to the child
  • Emotional regulation and social skills work
  • School liaison, accommodations and teacher briefings

The tapping bit, explained

What actually happens in an EFT session.

Most people arrive having seen a video and wondering whether tapping on your face can possibly do anything. Fair question. Here's the honest version.

You name the thing precisely, rate how strongly it lands right now, then tap through nine points while staying with it. Then you rate it again.

The tapping isn't magic and it isn't a replacement for therapy — it's a way of staying with something difficult while your body stays calm enough to keep looking at it. Most people notice the intensity drop within a round or two, and the specific memory or worry loses some of its charge.

I use EFT inside ordinary therapy rather than instead of it, and only where it fits. You'll leave the first session able to do a round on your own between appointments — the tool is meant to become yours.

EFT is a complementary technique. It is not a substitute for psychiatric care or medication, and I'll say so plainly if that's what a situation calls for.

One round · in order

  2. Eyebrow
  3. Side of eye
  4. Under eye
  5. Under nose
  6. Chin
  7. Collarbone
  8. Under arm
  9. Top of head re-rate

Getting started

How the first three weeks usually go.

You don't need a diagnosis, a referral or the right words to begin. You need about fifteen minutes to start with.

STEP 01

A free 15-minute call

You describe what's going on, I tell you honestly whether I'm the right person. If I'm not, I'll name someone who is. No charge and no obligation either way.

STEP 02

The first session

For children, this one is usually with parents alone: history, worries, what you've already tried. For teenagers and adults, it's with you. Nothing is asked that you're not ready to answer.

STEP 03

A plan you agree to

By the third session you'll have a plain-language sense of what we're working on, roughly how long it may take, and what changes at home. Reviewed every few weeks, out loud.

Beyond the therapy room

Work with groups.

Workshops for schools & educators

Half-day and full-day sessions for teachers, counsellors and playschool staff — practical, classroom-shaped, and built around the children they're actually teaching.

  • Understanding autism, ADHD and neurodiversity in the classroom
  • Spotting a child in distress early
  • Emotional first aid for teachers
  • Adolescent mental health and exam season
  • Parent-orientation sessions

Mentoring for psychology students

For students choosing a master's, hunting for an internship, or wondering whether clinical work is really for them. I've been answering these questions in DMs for years — this is the tidier version.

  • Choosing between courses and universities
  • Building an internship and RA track record
  • Dissertation scoping and participant recruitment
  • What the first year of clinical work is actually like
